This
second photograph
of the lightweight freight train at West Kirby shows it on its
way to Hooton. The photograph was taken from the lineside at
the end of Brookfield Gardens, looking across the line towards Ashton
Park. The single goods van in the middle of the train is an ex-GWR van. The brake van on the train is an intermediate design built prior to the standardisation of British Railways brake vans. It has the concrete ballast ends but retains the LNER pattern of lamp brackets and footboards. The train is pictured on Saturay, the 28th of April 1962, a week before final closure.
