A Model Railway depicting Thurstaston station on the Hooton to West Kirby branch on the Wirral Peninsula

These are planned trains made up of uncompleted models.  All are based on specific photographs and my analysis of the make-up of the prototype train.

In March 2022 I gave a presentation to a railway society that I'm a member of.  During lockdown, they were unable to have their regular twice-monthly meetings and moved to Zoom meetings instead to keep things ticking over.  After lockdown, normal meetings had resumed but they added a Zoom meeting when there was a fifth Wednesday in the month.  I volunteered to do the first of these extra meetings and in it covered my research of the branch and its operations.  For a bit of fun, I put together slides including these images to finish the show.  They aren't perfect but are here for interest.

Please get in touch if you want more information on anything here or on any other page.

Train at Kirby Park

This model represents the train from West Kirby running through Kirby Park on the evening of 7th of August 1954

I should have put the loco the other way round for the photograph.

7714 + GWR B-Set

This replicates a photo that I was given but asked not to publish, so you won't have seen it.

It shows 7714 and the left hand side of W5612 after arriving at West Kirby.

Train at Parkgate

This is based on the Colour Rail image of 4129 at Parkgate.  I will have a proper 4129 with the GWR lettering at some point.

The coaches are the Hornby D98 B-Set Brake Third and E131 Composite straight out of the box, for now.

This shows the LMS Push-Pull rake with 84009.

After 2 visits to the NRM I think I've got as much information as I think I can usefully get so I will finish them on that basis.
Image of Pannier freight

My favourite photo of the branch is the Pannier hauled freight at Thurstaston, as used in the 1986 Railway World article.

This is my interpretation of the loco and stock.

I have moved this from completed as I need to change one of the mineral wagons to give a better match.

Be assured, I DO NOT intend to repeat this ever again, but thought it would make an interesting end to the presentation.
